First Day of my Internship – 2026 JOIN Intern

Hello! My name is Audra Bergman, and I am a rising junior at Miami University. I am studying Accountancy with a minor in Digital Marketing. I am thrilled to be Yad Ezra’s Administration Intern this summer through the JOIN internship program at Gesher Human Services. I first became interested in the internship program when one of my friends completed it last summer. I immediately applied when the applications for this summer came out, and I knew the position at Yad Ezra was something I would be passionate about. As someone who went to Berkley for high school, I have driven past Yad Ezra many times. I even got the opportunity to volunteer here for a serving session a few years ago. It feels amazing to be back here now. While I will be on the admin side of the operations, I am also looking forward to giving back to the community through the serving sessions.

A little bit about me, when I am not at school or working, I enjoy cooking, specifically different pastas. Recently, I have started making sourdough and have been making pickles from scratch. Furthermore, I enjoy fitness and working out. I take Pilates classes weekly, which is a great way to stay active and relax my mind. Whether I am in an academic setting, at work, or in my personal time, I am a very leadership-driven person. At school, I hold various leadership roles that taught me skills that I can apply to the JOIN internship. From learning about accounting policies to creating social media posts, I am excited to bring my knowledge to this role and learn more about this organization and the wonderful employees that make it what it is.

As I am in the middle of my first day here, I have already learned so much. To start, I received a grand tour of the facility and the warehouse. I was greeted with so many smiling faces from the staff and longtime volunteers. It was incredible to learn about how the serving sessions operate and how the food is donated to the warehouse. The serving sessions are incredibly meaningful for those in need. Based on the number of people there are in a family, they receive a certain number of “points” towards their grocery order. They can then choose how they want to allocate those points as different items such as dairy, meat, and nonperishables are worth different points. What is unique about this system is how families can select what items they want based on their needs, instead of just receiving a pre-determined package. Additionally, I like how Yad Ezra offers delivery services as well. This is very important, being that some people might not have the transportation to get to the building.

When searching for any type of job, company culture is essential to me. Only a few hours into my first day, and I can already tell this summer is going to be impactful for me, and I will be supported by amazing individuals here at Yad Ezra. I can’t want to dive more in-depth into my work and learn a lot from this role!
