Annual Fundraising Event 2020 Honorees: Lucinda and Sandy Rosen
This year, on September 30th, Yad Ezra paid tribute to Lucinda and Sandy Rosen at the organization’s annual fundraising event. Lucinda and Sandy have been strong supporters and advocates for Yad Ezra for many years. When their children started becoming Bat/Bar Mitzvahed, they chose to volunteer in Yad Ezra’s warehouse so that the whole family could have a meaningful experience. When Yad Ezra’s leadership decided to assist Rabbi Michael Schudrich, the chief rabbi of Poland, establish a kosher food pantry for low income Jewish families and Righteous Gentiles, Lucinda and Sandy joined Yad Ezra’s mission to Poland and met with the rabbi and other leaders in Krakoff and Warsaw, packed and delivered groceries at the pantry and visited with some of the pantry’s recipients. Sandy serves on Yad Ezra’s board of directors and sits on a number of the organization’s committees. Since the pandemic began, Lucinda and Sandy have regularly volunteered to drop off groceries to client families’ homes.
The annual fundraising event accounts for a major portion of Yad Ezra’s operating budget and is used to purchase nutritious and desirable groceries, healthcare items and household cleaning items. Since Covid-19 began, Yad Ezra’s client population has increased by 15% and currently provides groceries to 1,250 families in need in the metro Detroit and greater Jewish community.
Because of Covid-19, this year we planned a drive-in motif event that included snacks, a brief video and reception line. Special thanks to event chairs, Gillian and Michael Bassirpour, Rissa and Sheldon Winkelman and Esther and Neal Zalenko for a successful event.
